Andromeda Galaxy surfing above the hydrogen clouds
This image highlights large, faint hydrogen clouds (ionizing H-alpha emission gas) surrounding the Andromeda Galaxy (M31). These delicate molecular and atomic clouds—often referred to as galactic Cirrus or flux nebulae—are brought out in detail specifically by combining the targeted 3 nm Chroma H-alpha filter data with the wide-field broadband exposures.
