This chain is known for the presence of numerous active galaxies that emit large amounts of radiation across different wavelengths, from X-rays to radio waves.
One of the most notable objects within the Markarian Chain is the galaxy Messier 87 (also known as M87), located at the center of the Virgo Supercluster.
