Image Description and Details: Langshan Reservoir in Urad Middle Banner is fed by several small streams, making it a scenic spot for night-sky photography. On a clear night, a group of friends and I drove there to capture the Perseid meteor shower. Suddenly, our aurora-forecast app alerted us that the KP index was rising. We checked NOAA’s aurora forecast and saw it could reach KP 7. We immediately scouted for a vantage point where meteors and aurora could share the same frame. We found a small creek to the north-northeast of the reservoir and began shooting. In the end, we recorded 11 meteors alongside brief, vibrant auroral pillars.
