Image Description and Details: In this collage, we witness the moon entering the ecliptic plane and disappearing behind Earth’s shadow over the span of ninety minutes before “emerging” as a blood-red orb, a consequence of bluer wavelengths of light scattering in Earth’s atmosphere before they could reach the lunar surface. Each image required at least fifty photographs, which were then stacked in AutoStakkert and processed in PixInsight and Apple Photos. While nothing can perfectly capture the scale and grandeur of a lunar eclipse, I hope this piece can illustrate its temporal progression.
Full Moon: 63 x 0.16ms –– Partial 1: 58 x 0.2ms –– Partial 2: 59 x 0.2ms –– Partial 3: 59 x 0.25ms –– Partial 4: 51 x 0.5ms –– Partial 5: 58 x 0.5ms –– Partial 6: 68 x 1ms –– Partial 7: 63 x 1ms –– Eclipsed: 70 x 300ms –– All frames shot at 560mm and f/8.

Equipment Details: Canon EOS 90D, Canon EF 100-400mm, Canon 1.4x Extender
