I spent just under an hour on this beautiful non-periodic comet the other evening. Now located in the constellation of Serpens, low in the western sky after sunset.
Comet Lemmon has an inbound orbital period of about 1,350 years and will pass perihelion (closest point to the Sun) on November 8. Its closest approach to Earth was on October 21 at a distance of approximately 56 million miles. This was undoubtedly one of the more photogenic comets I have imaged, and thankfully able to view with the naked eye here over new moon in Northern Arizona.
