Date image was taken: 12/22/2022

Image Description and Details : NGC 1232 is a spiral galaxy located at 65 million light-years from us in the direction of the Eridanus constellation. This galaxy is classified as an intermediate spiral galaxy, somewhere between a barred and unbarred spiral galaxy.

NGC 1232 is a galaxy seen strictly from the front, and provides an excellent laboratory for the study of star formation. Without the use of a narrowband filter (Hα), several nebulae (in pink) already appear in the spiral arms.

Note the presence of a companion (NGC 1232A) located just above and deformed, in the shape of the Greek letter "theta", by the gravitational forces of the host galaxy.
