Rosette Nebula with Sulfur Extensions from Nyon

Wide-field astrophotograph of the Rosette Nebula captured from a rooftop in Nyon, Switzerland, showing a blue oxygen-rich core surrounded by red hydrogen clouds and faint sulfur extensions reaching into dark interstellar dust.

Data Acquisition Method: Personal Telescope Setup

Description and Details: This image of the Rosette Nebula focuses on preserving and revealing the very faint outer structures, with a particular emphasis on the SII extensions, which turned out to be the main processing challenge.

While Hα provides a strong structural backbone and OIII dominates the inner regions, the SII channel reveals large-scale, diffuse features that add depth and complexity to the nebula. A significant part of the processing work was dedicated to extracting these subtle SII extensions without compressing the dynamic range or overwhelming the overall color balance.

Final integration
• Hα 2.5 nm: 35 × 600 s
• OIII 2.5 nm: 50 × 600 s
• SII 2.5 nm: 64 × 600 s

Total integration: 25 hours
