Description and Details: IC 2944, the Running Chicken Nebula, is an absolute joy to image. It features intricate detail that is typically rendered in HOO or SHO. For this capture, I experimented with a custom palette by creating a synthetic (SH) channel—combining the S and H channels based on a weighted average of their respective SNRs. Using this (SH) layer for Red and Luminance in an (SH)(SH)OO combination brought out subtle structures that standard blends often miss.
Setup: Askar 80 PhQ f/5.7, ASI2600MM, Optolong RGB filters for stars and SHO (7nm) filters. Total integration time: 11h 55min. Bortle 7.
