Whispers of a Dying Star: Messier 27
M27 is one of the most remarkable planetary nebulae in the night sky, representing the final evolutionary stage of a Sun-like star. In this image, the cyan emission is dominated by doubly ionized oxygen (OIII), while the red regions trace ionized hydrogen (Hα), revealing the complex structure and physical composition of the expanding nebula.
The image was captured from Marzamemi, Sicily (Italy) under Bortle 5 skies using the following equipment:
Telescope: Modified Levenhuk Newtonian 200/1000
Mount: Sky-Watcher CQ350 Pro
Camera: ZWO ASI2600MC Pro
Filter: Optolong L-Para
Controller: ASIAIR Plus
Integration: 104 × 300 seconds (8 hours 40 minutes)
This image is the result of many hours of acquisition, careful calibration, and processing, with the goal of preserving the nebula's natural emission colors while revealing its faint outer structures.
