The Enchanting Cometary Globule CG4 in Puppis

Image Description and Details :

More than 30 cometary globules (CG) have been found in the Gum Nebula since the late 1970’s that generally have dense, dusty heads and long faint tails pointing away from the center of the Vela OB2 association. The intricate structure evident in this Ha-enhanced RGB image of CG4, render it as one of the most striking examples. The serendipitous appearance of the nearly edge-on background galaxy ESO 257 – G019 (PGC 21338) pointing to a tight circlet of stars about 9-arcmin above the center of the globule’s head adds to the drama of the image, as does the presence of the bright star-forming cloud Sa 101 beneath the globule’s tail. Located in Puppis approximately 1300 lys away, the head of CG4 spans nearly 2.9 lys at its greatest projected width on the sky. East is up and north is to the right on this image whose slightly cropped square-degree field-of-view spans 23.3 lys on a side at the assumed distance.

The data used to make this image were obtained by an FLI Proline 16803 CCD camera on Chilescope’s 0.5-m Telescope 2 (f/3.8) on the nights of March 30th and April 26th of 2019. A series of 10-min long unbinned exposures were taken through red, green, blue and H-alpha filters that were integrated for 40, 50, 50 and 50-mins, respectively, over the 65 x 65 arcmin2 field-of-view. Subsequent processing, which included preparation of a synthetic Luminance frame, was performed using CCDStack v.2 and Photoshop CC 2018.

NGC 1398

NGC 1398 is an isolated barred spiral galaxy with an interesting double ring structure and feathery spiral arms positioned further out. It is located 65 million light years from the Earth, in the constellation of Fornax and has an estimated diameter of 135,000 light years, making it around 35 percent larger than the Milky Way. Ptolemaeus, Alphonsus and Arzachel (PAA)

Image Description and Details :

Moon 1 day and 8 hours before the third quarter, September 9, 2020. All the majesty of the icon of the lunar surface structures - Ptolemaeus, Alphonsus and Arzachel (PAA). Faint shadows accentuate the relief of the craters. In Alphonsus Crater, a "web" of clefts with several dark halo craters (DHC) is an artifact of ancient lunar volcanism. The young Arzachel crater, the depth of the expressiveness of the terraced slopes and the impressive central hill, shows that it is the youngest of the three; above it a small Alpetragius with a dome in the center, on the left "budding" Thebit, further Rupes Recta (Straight Wall) and Rima Birt, on the right two large craters - Albategnius and Hipparchus. Two chains of craters - Catena Davy and Catena Abulfeda - are perfectly visible near Ptolemy.Achromatic refractor TS152/900, Barlow Celestron Ultima 2x (F eq. 2270mm), ASI290MM, Baader Halpha 35nm filter, EQ-ATM, FireCapture2,6, Autostakkert!3 (250/2000), Registax6. Image Description and Details : Perched at an altitude of 2492m, this lake is located in an environment of dolomitic sedimentary rocks (composed of at least 25% dolomite).Downstream of this lake, the slopes are made up of glossy shales testifying to the presence of the bottom of an ocean more than 3000m deep 150 million years ago.Moreover, on the Pic of Rochebrune located not far from this lake, it is possible to find fossils of ammonites reflecting the presence of a hot so shallow!Today, this lake is a must-see destination for families wishing to have a picnic after an hour-long stroll! MWP1 & ALV1 Planetary Nebulas

The large and older planetary nebula, PK 080-10.1, was just discovered in the 90s of the last century by Motch, Werner and Pakull (hence the name MWP, which was formed from the initials of the discoverers' names. When they examined a weak X-ray source in the swan. The X-ray source turned out to be the central star of a planetary nebula. The central star is not a normal white dwarf, but a pulsating star of the type GW Vir. GW Vir stars pulsate with periods of less than one hour through non-radial gravity waves.
