This image was chosen for several reasons, here are just a few.

  • Difficulty

  • Processing techniques

  • Uniqueness

APPOD2’s monthly winner for February was taken by Terry Robinson we chose for it for several reasons. One of those reason was just how appropriately processed the image was. With the enormous amount of data acquired (100+ hours) surely Terry could have pushed the saturation, surely he could have boosted the exposure, surely he could have done many things to over cook this image, but he didn’t.

The stars are perfectly round and appropriately exposed.

The dim outer halo with all its tiny filaments of blue and teal highlights are presented in nice detail, which we are certain was not easy to accomplish.

The background shows no gradients and the stars are round from edge to edge.

Congratulations Terry and thanks for submitting such an awesome image.
