Description and Details: Here is our neighbor M31 in HOO+RGB. Andromeda is a spiral galaxy located about 2.5 million light-years away, and it's hurtling straight toward us at over 100 km per second. It's thought that it will collide with the Milky Way in about 4 billion years.

This image required over 27 hours of exposures across 7 nights in September. It particularly highlights in red the HII regions, which are star-forming areas rich in hydrogen.
