Sh2-188, known as the Shrimp Nebula, is a remarkable planetary nebula in the constellation Cassiopeia, located roughly 850 light years away. It spans about 13 light years across, making it quite large for a planetary nebula. Unlike the nearly spherical shells common to many objects of this type, Sh2-188 has a striking crescent-shaped arc with long, faint trailing filaments, giving it the appearance of a cosmic shrimp.

Sh2-188 is believed to be around 20,000 to 25,000 years old, placing it in a relatively advanced evolutionary stage for a planetary nebula. The fading central star has already shed its outer layers, leaving behind the delicate arcs and filaments that we see today.
