Description and Details: This image, captured in the constellation of Ursa Major, is dominated by an extensive cloud of Galactic interstellar dust located only a few hundred light-years from Earth. Despite its faint appearance, these dust structures can be recorded with relatively modest integration times.
Projected behind this nearby foreground is a remarkably rich extragalactic field containing dozens of galaxies. Several of the most prominent members belong to a galaxy group located roughly 100–170 million light-years away, while countless fainter galaxies extend much deeper into the Universe.
Nearly 50 hours of Hα integration were required to reveal the extremely faint diffuse hydrogen emission associated with the Galactic dust, adding another subtle layer to this view of our local interstellar medium.
