Data Acquisition Method: Remote Observatory (Commercial)

If other selected: The LMC is the largest of the Milky Way’s satellite galaxies. It lies approximately 157,000 light-years away and has about one-tenth the mass of the Milky Way. Gravitational interactions with the Milky Way and the SMC have generated fascinating structures, including bridges of gas and regions of intense star formation.

Image Description and Details: To create the LMC mosaic, the ShaRA team used the T4 telescope of Chilescope, a 100mm f/2 Nikon lens, ideal for wide-field imaging. The acquisition was performed using seven filters: LRGB and the three narrowband filters Ha, OIII, and SII. The image was divided into two panels to be later combined in post-processing. The exposures were taken over 20 nights, accumulating nearly 32 hours of total integration time.

Equipment Details: Nikon 100mm f/2, FLI 16200 CCD Camera
