M55

M 55 is a globular cluster consisting of around 100,000 stars spanning 100 light years.

It is situated 20,000 light years away from here in the constellation of Sagittarius.

Compared to many other globular clusters M55 does not have a dense core and is somewhat faint with relatively low surface brightness.

Individual stars are fairly easy to resolve.

Imaged in LRGB on my Planewave CDK 700 at Observatorio El Sauce, Chile.
